Peeling removes the rough outer skin of a hot-rolled bar in one pass, leaving a clean, concentric surface with good dimensional accuracy. Grinding takes that peeled bar further on a centreless grinder for a tighter tolerance, better roundness and a finer finish of roughly 0.1 to 0.4 Ra. Choose peeled if you machine the bar afterwards; choose ground if the bar's surface is the finished surface, as on a cylinder rod.
